Inefficient ads were eating profits.
Roughly two-thirds of every ad dollar was being lost to inefficient spend, with strong investment but weak returns.
The root cause was the campaign structure. Budgets were allocated to every SKU regardless of performance, while brand and non-brand keywords were blended together, obscuring true conversion drivers. There was no dayparting or bid automation, and campaigns were launched once and left unoptimized.
At the same time, the hero listing had a top 10 ranking partly driven by advertised sales velocity. Maintaining ad spend was essential to sustain visibility but without efficiency, it was an expensive and unsustainable approach.
